Adapting to Change - 2024 BC Building Code Updates: Bracing, Emissions, and More (2 Person registration)

$650 (8 am to 5 pm - Thursday, May 8 2025 )

This training addresses updates and changes to the 2024 BC Building Code, focusing on the bracing requirements, zero-carbon emission standards, bathroom reinforcement, and radon subfloor depressurization, while aiming to address the changes introduced on March 10, 2025.

Topics include core changes in the code, including bracing requirements, zero-carbon standards, and the focus on building safety and environmental sustainability.

Wind and Seismic design

Subsection 9.23.13 - Bracing to Resist Lateral Loads Due to Wind and Earthquake.

Addresses bracing requirements for lateral loads from wind and earthquakes.

There are substantially changed to accommodate redesign of the methods for resisting lateral loads and new solutions are offered so designers can continue to design within the parameters of Part 9.

Zero carbon standards

New buildings must comply with the provincial minimum Level 1 of the Zero Carbon Step Code. This requires measuring and disclosing operational greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and installing systems to track and report these emissions

Adaptable-dwelling provisions

Provide at least one bathroom with walls reinforcement (backing) of 1 bathroom walls for future grab bar installations

Radon safety

Enhanced rough-ins for radon subfloor depressurization systems are set to improve structural resilience and indoor air quality.
